SUMMARY:Annual EENeT Conference 2024
DESCRIPTION:On 5-7 June 2024\, INDEED is invited to the Annual EENeT Conference 2024 in Brussels\, Belgium. \nThe European Expert Network on Terrorism Issues (EENeT) is dedicated to multidisciplinary and multi-agency analysis and research\, which are considered prerequisites for providing comprehensive insights into the complexity of the phenomenon “terrorism“. Since the phenomenon is influenced by a large number of factors\, holistic phenomenon monitoring presents itself as an extremely complex undertaking\, which only appears possible on a multidisciplinary basis\, in close cooperation with the specialist departments and experts from the law enforcement agencies / relevant authorities and the field of science. It requires a consolidation of resources and an exchange of experience and knowledge\, which\, in view of the forms of international terrorism\, should also be organised along international lines in particular. \nThe event will have a large variety of presentations and discussions regarding Radicalisation\, Terrorism and Extremism.

SUMMARY:Annual EENeT Conference 2023
DESCRIPTION:On 18-20 September INDEED is invited to the Annual EENeT Conference 2023 in Prague\, Czech Republic. \nThe event will have a large variety of presentations and discussions regarding Radicalisation\, Terrorism and Extremism\, and INDEED is going to have its dedicated panel.

SUMMARY:15th Annual International Conference of Society for Terrorism Research
DESCRIPTION:On 20-21 July\, Arif Sahar – member of the INDEED Consortium from CENTRIC – will participate in the 15th Annual International Conference of Society for Terrorism Research in Lisbon\, Portugal. \nThe Society for Terrorism Research (STR) is an international\, multi-disciplinary organization of theoretical and empirical researchers whose mission is to enhance knowledge and understanding of terrorism and political violence through annual conferences\, events and articles in their peer-reviewed journal. \nArif Sahar will participate with a paper focusing on the complexities of policy response to radicalisation in the EU from a practitioners’ perspective. \nSpecifically\, this paper reports on the findings of a workshop with practitioners and policymakers to determine the complexions e.g.\, assumptions\, design\, and implementation surrounding P/CVE/DeRAD policies. This paper addresses the involvement of practitioners responsible for the implementation of these policies and whether the assumptions upon which they are based respond to the security landscapes and meet the requirements of the practitioners. The paper suggests that practitioners are not provided with the space and voice they require in the design and development P/CVE/DeRAD policies\, leading to a lack of clarity in the objectives and terms of reference utilised. The paper further suggests ways in which practitioners can be involved in the efforts aimed at mitigating violent extremism. The paper concludes that for P/CVE/DeRAD policies to deliver on their aims/promises\, practitioners must be involved meaningfully in all stages of design and development of such policies\, as practitioners are better placed to provide insights into the processes\, causal factors\, and practical and evidence-based consideration for the wider contexts within which (dis)engagement in terrorist activities may take place.

SUMMARY:CEP Webinar: The Polish Independence March as a Contact Hub and Model for European Extremism
DESCRIPTION:On 24th April\, the Counter Extremism Project (CEP) invites INDEED to “The Polish Independence March as a Contact Hub and Model for European Extremism” webinar\, presenting the homonym report published by CEP. \nThe Independence March\, held in Warsaw\, Poland\, on November 11 each year\, is the largest nationalist demonstration in the European Union. It enables violence-oriented right-wing extremists (VRWEs) to exchange experiences\, transfer funds\, and conduct recruitment and training. Within the VRWE milieus\, the March is used as a multifaceted\, all-encompassing quasi-lifestyle-event and is promoted as a model in other countries. Therefore\, the March created a transnational ideological apparatus with the ability to generate media topics and address important social issues\, acquiring an increasingly professional look each year.  \n  \nTo participate in this webinar please register via this link: \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_4YKjgmmiSYajuRMNcoMJaQ \n  \n \n  \n \n  \n \n

SUMMARY:CEP-GLOBSEC Webinar: Mapping Violent Right-Wing Extremist Groups – Who’s Who In Bulgaria And Hungary
DESCRIPTION:The Counter Extremism Project (CEP) and GLOBSEC invite INDEED to the “Mapping Violent Right-Wing Extremist Groups – Who’s Who In Bulgaria And Hungary” webinar discussing violent right-wing extremist groups in Bulgaria and Hungary\, including their financial networks. \nThe presence of violent right-wing extremist groups in Central Europe is not a new phenomenon. However\, in recent years\, these movements have become increasingly vocal\, active\, engaged\, and violent. The global COVID-19 pandemic as well as the war in Ukraine have added additional themes to their ideological messages\, or ‘alternative narratives’\, as some right-wing movements choose to label them. \nIn addition\, the transformation of some of these movements into full-fledged political parties have led to some electoral successes. More importantly\, some of these parties’ radical messaging have now entered the political mainstream. All Central European countries are experiencing similar developments in this regard\, despite their historical\, national\, and cultural differences. \nThis webinar is a first of a two-part series on Central European extreme right-wing movements and will give an overview of the current situation in Bulgaria and Hungary.  \nTo participate in this webinar please register via this link:https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_PNRNga7yTcWvGVMPbW1FFA \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:CERIS FCT workshop: EU-funded projects on preventing radicalisation - Synergies and Insights
DESCRIPTION:On 29 November 2022\, INDEED is invited to take part in the CERIS FCT workshop on “EU-funded projects on preventing radicalisation – Synergies and Insights” in Brussels. The workshop will bring together practitioners\, policy makers and researchers to discuss the lessons drawn from a number of projects related to radicalisation\, as well as to ensure that the research carried out under these projects can be fully exploited by informing policy makers and other stakeholders\, particularly on the evidence-based policy responses. The aim of this workshop is to facilitate the sharing of experiences and research findings in order to identify current achievements\, possible synergies\, and inspire each other while strengthening collaboration on European level. At the event\, INDEED will be represented by PPHS\, VUB and UoH. \nAbout CERIS\nAiming to facilitate interactions within the security research community and users of research outputs\, in 2014 the Commission established the Community of Users for Safe\, Secure and Resilient Societies (CoU)\, which gathered around 1\,500 registered stakeholders (policy makers\, end-users\, academia\, industry and civil society) and regularly held thematic events with the security research community. Now named the Community for European Research and Innovation for Security (CERIS)\, this platform continues and expands the work of the CoU\, in light of the forthcoming Horizon Europe developments between 2021-2027.

SUMMARY:RAN LOCAL - Pulse taking: What are local effects of recent developments in P/CVE?
DESCRIPTION:On 15-16 November 2022\, INDEED is invited to take part in the RAN LOCAL – Pulse taking: What are local effects of recent developments in P/CVE? in Helsinki. During the meeting the University of Helsinki will introduce the objectives and activities of the INDEED project. \nBackground and aim of the meeting\nHow do the current and emerging geo-political developments and social transformations change extremism as it’s being experienced by local and regional coordinators? The developments taking place at the national\, European\, or even global level can lead to big social\, economic\, and ecological challenges that play out on the local level and impact the work of local and regional P/CVE coordinators. Climate change\, energy transition\, migration\, inflation\, poverty\, and issues around trust in authorities are some examples of the current developments that might influence the breeding ground for polarisation\, extremism and political violence. Therefore\, it is important to remain fully aware of the new developments and their potential impacts on the local communities and the processes of radicalisation. \nFor this meeting\, we will invite local and regional P/CVE coordinators to take stock of what they see happening today that could have polarising effects on the local community and/or add to the breeding ground for radicalisation. Participants will discuss these developments and exchange ideas about the degree to which these developments may define their P/CVE agenda in the near future. Participants will also discuss what is needed for local authorities to be able to react to the current developments and deal with the potential consequences in their cities and communities. \n  \n  \n

Though a small proportion of the total prison population\, managing these offenders confronts Member States with important challenges related to rehabilitation and reintegration and\, in some cases\, risk management. The RAN REHABILITATION working group aims to bring together practitioners under a rehabilitation roadmap.
